ADVOCATING FOR EFFECTIVE AYFHS THROUGH STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

 

Using the #C3approach, KCIA in partnership with #Chazanga Health centre held a stakeholders meeting on to share gaps on adolescent and Youth friedly services (#AYFHS) and also find strategies on how to overcome them. Stakeholders invited to this meeting included: Mpulungu ward 26 Area councilor, Lusaka District AIDS Cordinating Advisor (DACA), DHO Lusaka Adolescent FPP representative, District HIV-AIDS Committee (DHAC) Chairperson, DHAC Executive member, Zonal Coordinator-Emmasdale, Sub District 2 and Church representative. 

All stakeholders came up an action plan on how bets they can work together to improve access and utilization of SRH and HOIV services at Chazanga and other Health facilities. Stakeholders agreed to locally resource mobilise for a tent, IEC materials, create time for SRH discussions both at schools and in the community. KCIA and Chazanga HC are delighted and are looking forward to implementation of such strategies.

 With support from Paediatric Adolescent Treatment Africa, Kabamngwe Creative Initiative Association held a training for Health workers, Psycho social counsellors and Peer supporters from three Health facilities namely Chikupi, Kafue Estates and Chazanga Health centre.

The three facilities are implementing the REACH and ABCD project which is targeting adolescents and young people aged 10-24. REACH project is focusing on retention of adolescents aged 10-19 while ABCD is focusing on providing basic mental health support to pregnant and Breastfeeding girls and young women aged 18-24.

TEEN CLUB ACTIVITIES- REACH



With support from Paediatric Adolescent Treatment Africa (PATA), KCIA continues to support teen clubs at three facilities in Lusaka and Kafue in collaboration with PRICHO.

Peer supporters are involved in task-shifting and ensuring provision of differentiated services delivery for adolescent and young people and they carry out different duties in clinic-community settings ranging from individuals, families, to the health facility, communities and other settings such as schools and smaller peer groups.

THINKING HEALTHY CONCEPT TRAINING-ABCD

 The ABCD “thinking Heathy Concept” training for the three facilities took place in Kafue and Lusaka, Zambia. Three Nurses, three Psycho-social counsellors and nine Peer supporters from Chikupi Rural Health Centre, Kafue Estates clinic and Chazanga Health centre actively participated. The participants were equipped with skills to provide effective Psycho social support to HIV+ pregnant and Breastfeeding young moms using the mobile app. Support groups will be set up to ensure information flow using structured sessions. We wish to thank the participating facilities for the continued energy. Great thanks to Paediatric - Adolescent Treatment Africa for the continued support and to Pride Community Health Organization for the continued networking.
