7. Subscriptions, Feeds and Syndication
We have now subscribed to a
number of websites for constant information updates. This is an advantage
because it saves the time to navigate through a number of websites to search
for information. Subscribe for feeds and updates is more effective and all you
only do is read through the feeds being sent to your inbox. Information is
received as soon as it is generated in the website. All you need is to have a
feed reader with the required software.
This helps to provide up to
date information as soon as it is generated on your website.
6. Hosted Services
There is need to establish
reliable sites so that organizations, institutions, companies, Groups and
individuals do not risk losing out on
information depending on the media tool being used. Once again there is
need to emphasize on avoiding posting private and sensitive information on
social media. Setting up a local system or using a server remotely hosted both
has advantages and disadvantages therefore it up to the organization to make a
choice.
We shall however as an Organization use
multiple social media for various issues.
5. Group Productivity and Collaboration Tools
The Organization
shall strive to improve on its ways of communicating with staff, community and
other stake holders. Among some ways we shall use are Phone and Voice over IP
(communication via Internet), Video conference, as well as blogs. Community mobilization and other initiative shall
be implemented through social media .All staff and volunteers will be
encouraged to set up email addresses, personal blogs, Skype and twitter
accounts where possible. However, challenge will be on affordability of
internet among our target groups who in this case include the vulnerable youths
and women form our target areas.
Micro blogging
shall be encouraged among our constituency through twitter, Flickr etc.
4. Current Issues and New Ideas
A lot of mobile
phones are able to access internet nowadays. As we take advantage of the
availability of social media, we shall also as an organization put in mind the
opportunities available in using Mobile phones as a tool to reaching out to the
masses especially our target groups. As we create content on the web, we shall
bear in mind that it has to be mobile compatible.
3. Privacy, Intellectual Property and access to Social media
Be aware of privacy, security and intellectual property issues around the uses of social media and the challenges they present.
Social media has both benefits and Challenges. Among the benefits we shall have as an Organization and as individuals is being able to create and share content world-wide. But besides benefits comes the challenges which include; security and right to privacy. There is a lot of Identity theft on the web and our Organization shall endeavour to protect the privacy of the staff and Organization by limiting the amount and type of information we share on the web
2. SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES AND COMMUNITIES
Recognize the strategic advantages they offer to your group or organization.
As opposed to the past, we shall use social networking sites to share relevant Videos, Pictures, Views and opinions with our Local and international community without using much difficulty. We shall enhance information flow with our stake holders. Open discussions can be held using features like Google groups where members can join and be part of the discussions. On the other hand we intend to use social media to gather information about our local community by posting questions and then receive feedback from the people.
Individual members of staff for the Organization shall also create their own personal accounts especially with LinkedIn, Twitter, Blogger so that they are able to interact with
1. Introduction to Web & Social Media
This is about people sharing and collaborating regardless of their geographical location. It a social rather than a technological matter which can be used to foster development beyond bound
Some examples of social media include: Facebook, Twitter, You-Tube, VOX, Flicker etc.
There are 4 broad areas for social media which can be used for Collaborating, Connecting, Creating, Sharing content, Finding and using information, views and ideas.
However, I have learnt that the web is not the right place to share sensitive information. Currently our organization uses social media through face book but after this training we have established twitter, LinkedIn, blogger and we shall use Google docs, Google search etc.
